Raashan Ahmad - The Push (2008)

New solo joint from Crown City Rockers' Raashan Ahmad. This album has a jazzy soul hiphop feel reminiscent of earlier days in raps past. The samples can be somewhat simple but they work so well. Hard knocking bass and kicks and hi hats. A look back to when hip hop was composed of the original elements. Beats are tight, and Raashan's delivery is great, with topics ranging from introspective thoughts about his mothers death to childbirth to hip hop in general. Flow + Word play = EmCee. Also you might remember Raashan from a freestyle he did on Time Machine's TM Radio Mixtape. Or from way back when CCR were called Mission, after a super cool neighborhood in SF. What up to all the Mission-ites reading this. Eat a sleeping bag burrito for me. One
